The Sofia Hotel is committed to clarity, comfort, and a smooth guest experience. Below, you’ll find a complete overview of our required nightly fees, optional services, and key hotel policies.

HOTEL FEES

FEES & TAXES

The following fees apply per room, per night unless otherwise noted.

ROOM RATE & MANDATORY TAXES

All hotels within the City of San Diego must collect the following taxes on the room rate:

  • Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT): 13.75%

  • Tourism Marketing District (TMD) Assessment: 2%

  • Total Mandatory Tax: 15.75%

Example Based on a $100 Room Rate

Room + tax: $100 + 15.75% tax = $115.75

HISTORICAL PRESERVATION FEES

The Historical Preservation Assessment (HPA) is a city-authorized nightly fee collected by hotels to help maintain, restore, and preserve San Diego’s historic buildings, landmarks, and cultural districts.

  • Historical Preservation Assessment (HPA): $3.50 + tax

GUEST AMENITIES FEE:

Our daily Guest Amenity Fee supports a collection of thoughtful comforts designed to enhance your stay.

  • Guest Amenity Fee: $17.65 + mandatory tax

Guest Amenities Fee Includes:

  • Wi-Fi in room and public areas

  • FloWater filtered hydration stations

  • Flat Screen HDTV with ESPN and expanded DIRECTV

  • Refrigerator & microwave

  • Nespresso in-room coffee experience

  • 24-hour on-site fitness center and yoga studio

  • Urban cruiser bicycles (with helmets)

  • Beach chairs

  • Sunday local lobby newspapers

  • Weekend guided walking tour (weather permitting).

DAILY PARKING FEES:

Convenient on-site parking is available just behind the hotel, with preferred daily rates for registered guests. The daily fee includes unlimited in/out privileges.

  • Self-Parking: $40 (tax included)

  • Valet Parking: $50 (tax included)

PET FEE

We are pleased to welcome dogs at The Sofia Hotel. Please see Pet Policies under Hotel Policies.

  • Pet Fee: $50 per pet, per night + tax

HOTEL POLICIES

CHECK-IN / CHECK-OUT

Early check-in and late check-out may be available for an additional fee and are subject to availability at arrival.

  • Check-In: Guaranteed by 4:00pm

  • Check-Out: 11:00am

CANCELLATION & NO-SHOW POLICY

For most flexible reservations be sure to book directly with the hotel. Please note: special offers advance purchase, and certain group or third-party reservations may carry different cancellation terms. Please refer to your reservation confirmation for specific details.

  • Reservations may be cancelled up to 48 hours prior to arrival by 4:00pm local hotel time without penalty.

  • Cancellations made inside 48 hours of arrival, and no-show reservations, are subject to a charge of one night’s room and tax.

GUARANTEED RESERVATIONS & PAYMENT

  • A valid credit card is required to guarantee all reservations.

  • Credit card used at booking may be authorized prior to arrival to confirm validity.

  • At check-in, guests must present a matching government-issued physical photo ID and credit card.

INCIDENTAL DEPOSIT

A refundable $75 per night authorization is placed on your credit card at check-in to cover incidentals and potential damages.

Your bank determines the release timeframe after checkout.

PET POLICY

To ensure a comfortable experience for all guests

  • A limited number of designated pet-friendly rooms are available; advance notice is recommended.

  • Pets may not be left unattended in the guest room. 

  • Pets are not permitted in certain public areas as required by local health regulations.

  • Any damages or excessive cleaning caused by a pet may result in additional charges.

SMOKING POLICY

The Sofia Hotel is a 100% smoke-free property, including guest rooms and public spaces.
A $300 deep-cleaning fee applies for any smoking violations in guest rooms or restricted areas.

HOUSEKEEPING & LINEN POLICY

In support of sustainability and guest preference:

  • Guests may request additional linen changes anytime

  • Fresh towels are available daily upon request

  • Guests may decline daily housekeeping service if preferred

ROLLAWAY BEDS & CRIBS

Young children are welcome at The Sofia Hotel, and we’re pleased to offer Pack and Plays (available upon request). We’re sorry, cribs and rollaway beds are not available.

OCCUPANCY & AGE REQUIREMENT

  • Guests must be 18 years of age or older to check in, with valid government-issued physical photo ID.

  • Maximum occupancy limits vary by room type and are enforced for safety and comfort.

ACCESSIBILITY & SERVICE ANIMALS

The Sofia Hotel is committed to providing accessible facilities, amenities, and services throughout the property.  Service animals are welcome at The Sofia Hotel and are not subject to pet fees. Accessible features include:

  • ADA guest rooms with roll-in showers or accessible bathtubs

  • Accessible self-parking

  • Elevators with braille signage

  • Accessible public restrooms and pathways

  • Assistive listening devices, TTY/TTD available

  • TV closed-captioning

NOISE & QUIET ENJOYMENT

To ensure a peaceful environment for all guests, excessive noise or disruptive behavior may result in warnings or removal without refund. Quiet hours may be enforced as needed.

LOST & FOUND
Items left behind are logged and held for 30 days. To inquire about a misplaced item, please contact the Front Desk and our team will be happy to assist.

LIABILITY FOR PERSONAL BELONGINGS

The Sofia Hotel is not responsible for the loss of cash, jewelry, electronics, or other valuables left unattended in guest rooms or public areas. In-room safes are provided for your convenience.

DAMAGES & ADDITIONAL CLEANING

Guests are responsible for any damage to hotel property, missing items, or excessive cleaning required during their stay. The registered guest authorizes the hotel to charge the credit card on file for such costs.

PACKAGE HANDLING POLICY

Packages or mail may be delivered to the hotel within 96 hours prior to arrival.
Storage for oversized items may be limited. Fees may apply for large quantities or extended holding periods.

ALCOHOL POLICY

Guests must be 21+ to consume or purchase alcohol. Alcohol is permitted in guest rooms but may not be consumed in public indoor spaces unless served by hotel staff or permitted by law.

FIRE SAFETY POLICY

Use of open flames, candles, incense, or cooking appliances in guest rooms is strictly prohibited. Violation may result in eviction and cleaning fees.

DRONE / FILMING POLICY

Unauthorized drone use, commercial photography, or filming in public spaces is not permitted without prior written approval from Hotel Management.
